In 1924, Poul Henningsen created his influential Paris lamp for Louis Poulsen, and the origin of how we still design to shape light can directly be traced back to his views on the dualities of design and light.

Founded in 1874, Louis Poulsen is a Danish lighting manufacturer born out of the Scandinavian design tradition where form follows function. The function and design of our products are tailored to reflect and support the rhythm of natural light. Every detail in the design has a purpose. Every design starts and ends with light.

In 1856, after earning a Fine Arts diploma, Giuseppe Sambonet, son of a nobleman from Vercelli, got a Master Goldsmith licence and established the company Giuseppe Sambonet, registering the seal bearing the initials “GS” with the mint in Turin. By the early 20th century his company was the Official Supplier to many noble families, including the Duchess of Genoa and the Count of Turin. In 1932 Sambonet was the first company in Italy to build an industrial manufacturing plant for both sterling silver and galvanic silverware. In 1938 it developed an innovative process for the production of stainless steel flatware and a silverplated steel manufacturing technique. In 1947 it started manufacturing stainless steel knives and blades by using its own technology. In 1956 Sambonet conquered the international market as it was chosen from 53 competitors to supply the Hilton Hotel in Cairo with a hollowware line that is in its collection still today.

One of the world’s most respected furniture design houses, de Sede’s quality Swiss craftsmanship has its foundation in a long history of making expertly designed saddles. Founded in 1965 to build on a successful family-run saddler’s workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland, de Sede now is a leading manufacturer of leather goods and furniture, including sofas, chairs and beds.

At the core of de Sede’s philosophy is a reverence for the complexity and beauty of handcrafted furniture in an age when mass-produced objects are the norm. Over the years, the atelier has built a name for itself in its modular furniture pieces, which are made using the highest quality leather upholstery. The sleek, elegant pieces incorporate functionality with beauty. Amongst their best-selling designs is the DS-600 introduced in 1972. Also known as the Non Stop sofa, it is a sensually curved, snaking modular sofa whose individual pieces can be zipped together to create multiple variations and arcs.

Ubald Klug’s 1974 DS-1025, also known as the Terrazza sofa, is an enduring favorite with its cascading levels of leather. De Sede AG is now part of the Volare Group AG and continues to handcraft its fine furniture and other goods from its factory in Klingnau.
