Late 17th century French extremely fine carved wood polychromed and gold gilded pocket watch holder. It has a carved cup behind the front opening to hold the pocket watch. These became a very decorative ornament for the mantlepieces for aristocrats in the 17th and 18th Centuries. It has been mounted on a lucite base to match the piece.
